Country is my Bible, the scripture of the South

It’s that right or wrong, in a Country song, I’m singing in my house

Next to my neighbor, who drinks too much and parks his old cars

On my lawn, yeah its the sound of some Johnny, that keeps me right with the lord

Leather bound stories, of unrelenting love

Verse by verse, hymn by hymn,  God’s radio from above

Now these, words they keep on coming, to rescue us again

To shine some light on who we are, to take away our sins

Country is my Bible, the scripture of the South

It’s my rock n roll, with some Memphis soul, for when I’m feeling down

And the angels they just sing along like they’re with me on the chorus

Yeah, it’s that sound, of the music, that keeps me right…with the lord…

SOLO   (right with the lord, country is God in a song)

Country is my Bible, it’s the scripture of my house

It’s that right or wrong, in a country song,  I’m playing way too loud

Gonna love my neighbors,  like a family,  and make this country proud

Just, listen to the music and sing along….

Country is my Bible, the scripture of the South

It’s my rock n roll, with some Memphis soul, for when I’m feeling down

And the angels, they  just sing along like they’re with me on the chorus

Yeah it’s that sound of the music, that keeps me right with the lord

It’s the sound of the music, that keeps me right…with the lord…

I was writing 5 songs in 3 days ahead of a scheduled recording session in Nashville that had already been booked for the following week.

“Country Is My Bible” just came out in short order. My explanation is that “everything happens for a reason”.

My love of music and especially country music, can be explained in a religious way through the songs that drew me in. I have always gravitated to simple yet meaningful lyrics that just make me feel good driving down the road of life.

My ventures to Nashville, brought me closer to the source of all of the above, which allowed me to put down how I felt about country music. There is no substitute for the Bible, but if I am driving in my car and I want to have a religious experience without crashing, I just turn up a good old country song, vintage or modern, they both work for me. Country radio is what gets you from one Sunday to the next or seems like a good backup plan for not going to church altogether.

“Country is God in a song”…(from the bridge)

People coming together over a song, that’s a highlight. A singer on stage is like a preacher in church, the crowd like angels in the choir. There is an energy of understanding in that moment, all is well, all is understood, we are safe for a moment because of music.

“And the angels’ they just sing along, like they’re with me on the chorus…”
